Essential oils interact with the skin and nervous system through receptor pathways, influencing inflammation, emotional tone, and visible skin condition. This presentation explores the Neuro-Immuno-Cutaneous-Endocrine (NICE) network and how essential oils communicate through surface receptors—TRP channels, cannabinoid, and olfactory receptors. Attendees will learn how to design essential oil formulations and treatments that support skin health and emotional regulation, grounded in scent science, skin physiology, and the therapeutic potential of plant-based systems. The session also touches on biophilia—the innate healing of nature—as a foundation for holistic skin vitality and sensory wellness.

Jimm Harrison is a global educator and formulator with over 30 years of experience in essential oil therapy and plant-based wellness. He is the author of four books on aromatherapy and natural health, and created the Essential Oil Certificate Program for Bastyr University’s School of Natural Medicine. Jimm’s work focuses on the therapeutic use of essential oils through receptor science, olfactory intelligence, and intentional formulation.
