AIA Research Academy - Applying the TREATS Quality Appraisal Checklist to Aromatherapy Research: Making it all Make Sense! with Dr. Marian Reven and Dr. Susan Kristiniak

Applying the TREATS quality appraisal checklist to aromatherapy research: Making it all make sense!

with Dr. Marian Reven and Dr. Susan Kristiniak

In this friendly and informative talk, Dr. Marian Reven, founder and president of ARQAT (Aromatic Research Quality Appraisal Taskforce) and Dr. Susan Kristiniak will guide the learner through several practical applications of the Transparent Reporting for Essential oil and Aroma Therapeutic Studies (TREATS) checklist. Two recent, open access aromatherapy focused studies will be critiqued from the standpoint of aromatics. Learners will have the opportunity to see TREATS used on the two article and will be challenged to find a third article on which to practice this valuable critique exercise. No research expertise is required but a passion for quality in aromatic research is recommended.

Learner Outcomes:

  • Recognize how to apply the TREATS checklist to at least one aromatherapy-focused research study
  • State two ways the TREATS can be used to improve the quality of aromatherapy research such as case studies and qualitative and quantitative work
  • Decide how to apply TREATS to different types of studies keeping in mind the need to allow for various study types
