Understanding Institutional Review Boards in the Research Process

The presentation will provide an overview of the IRB and the historical development. Discussions on the approval process including readiness for submission is outlined. In addition, researcher requirements to initiate the IRB and ongoing post approval responsibilities are reviewed.

Learner Outcomes:

  • By the end of the presentation, participants will be able to describe the IRB historical development.
  • By the end of the presentation, participants will be able to identify the various types of IRB approvals.
  • By the end of the presentation, participants will be able to develop their plan for IRB readiness for board approval.

Susan graduated with a masters in Integrative Health and Doctorate in Health Administration and has integrated her Aromatherapy practice into her role as nursing leader. She is a published author and presenter on topics of clinical application and self-care practices. She has conducted and published research for aromatherapy. She is a member of the AIA's research and clinical committees. Susan is currently adjunct faculty for Drexel University and the Birchtree Center. She is currently the CNO for Caregility, a virtual care technology company.
