Essential Oils from Lebanon: From Sacred History to Current Challenges with Nicole Bou Khalil

  • Discover what makes Lebanon a country rich in biodiversity.
  • List the main essential oils produced in Lebanon.
  • Identify the specificities of the Lebanese essential oils and hydrolates.

Lebanon boasts a wealth of biodiversity and has a longstanding tradition of utilizing medicinal plants for healing. However, the potential of these aromatic plants remains largely untapped.  

We will dive into 5 beautiful essential oils produced in Lebanon: the eternal Cedar of Lebanon, the intoxicating Neroli, her highness the Rose, the delicate Myrtle and the ever- triumphant bay Laurel. 

From their sacred roots to their cultural and historical significance, we will explore their use in folk medicine, their specificity and composition, and the current challenges faced in their production.

 

Nicole Bou Khalil is a Pharmacist and a Clinical Aromatherapist and holds a Master in Public Health. She studied Phytotherapy, Aromatherapy and Medicinal Plants in France, and underwent trainings in clinical aromatherapy in France and the UK.

A pioneer in introducing aromatherapy practice to Lebanon, Dr Boukhalil teaches aromatherapy to the general public and gives lectures and workshops about the benefits of aromatherapy.

She initiated the first clinical aromatherapy services in a hospital setting in Lebanon and trains healthcare professionals in clinical aromatherapy.

In her pharmacy in Beirut she creates aromatherapy blends tailored to her patients needs.

She offers clinical aromatherapy consultations in a multi-disciplinary clinic in Beirut.

Her passion for essential oils led her to become involved in the preservation and promotion of the medicinal and aromatic plants of Lebanon. Her aim is to promote Lebanese essential oils and encourage small distillers sell their products and sustain their work and know-how.

Nicole is a registered pharmacist in the Massachusetts Board of pharmacy.

She is the Airmid Institute ambassador to Lebanon and the NAHA Director to her country. She sits on the IFPA Board of Trustees.

She will be a speaker at the Botanica conference in May 2024
